Plastic injection molding is a manufacturing process in which molten plastic is injected into a mold under high pressure, where it cools and solidifies into a specific shape. Because it enables high precision and repeatability, it is widely used to produce complex parts in industries such as automotive, medical, and consumer goods. The process typically includes melting, injection, cooling, and ejection stages.

The cost of a plastic injection mold depends on several technical factors, including the part’s size and complexity, the type of material, the number of cavities, and the expected production volume. Since each project has unique specifications, there is no fixed or universal price, and manufacturers usually provide a custom quote based on design and production requirements.

The five main types of plastic moulding processes are:

  • Injection molding: uses pressure to inject molten plastic into molds
  • Blow molding: forms hollow parts using air pressure
  • Compression molding: shapes material using heat and direct pressure
  • Rotational molding: creates hollow parts by rotating molds during heating
  • Extrusion molding: produces continuous shapes such as pipes or profiles

Each method is selected based on part design, material, and production needs.

A variety of thermoplastics are used in injection molding, depending on the required mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. Common materials include:

  • Polypropylene (PP): lightweight and chemical-resistant
  • Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS): high impact resistance
  • Polyethylene (PE): flexible and widely used
  • Polycarbonate (PC): strong and transparent
  • Nylon (PA): durable and wear-resistant
