Plastic tomato clip for agriculture

A green tomato and a ripe tomato growing next to a plastic tomato ring.

The plastic tomato clip manufactured by Klumex is an agricultural fastener produced via plastic injection molding at the company’s own facilities in Mexico, designed for staking tomato, cucumber, bell pepper, and chili pepper plants in conventional greenhouses and hydroponic greenhouses. Its mass production through controlled processes ensures dimensional uniformity in every piece and consistent availability for wholesale orders of any size.

The use of tomato clips in agricultural production

A tomato clip is a plastic fastener for tomato plants that is placed around the plant’s stem to secure it to the raffia or twine that hangs from the guide wire or cable installed at the top of the greenhouse. Its main function is to guide the plant’s vertical growth, prevent the stem from bending under the weight of the fruit, and keep the clusters from touching the ground, thereby reducing the risk of rot and contamination from contact with the growing medium.

Use of the tomato clip

A raffia or polypropylene string is installed from the hook located on the guide wire, at a height of between 1.8 and 3.5 meters above the ground, down to the base of the plant’s stem.

As the plant grows, the operator places an agricultural tomato ring at regular intervals along the stem, securing it around both the support string and the stem simultaneously.

The clip’s design prevents the stem from being compressed, which promotes ventilation between the ring and the plant and reduces the incidence of fungal diseases such as botrytis.

The process is repeated throughout the entire growing cycle until the plant reaches the guide wire.
